Mary Alice Wimmer of Wauwatosa, WI, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, her 83rd birthday. She was born the late Emmet Joseph and Collis Marie (Prose) Goodbody, June 15, 1938, in San Diego, CA. She graduated from Escondido High School in 1956 and received her nursing certificate from St. Mary’s Nursing School in San Francisco, CA in 1959. Later, she returned to school and received her BSN from College of St. Francis in Joliet, IL in 1986.
She married the late William Wimmer in 1960 in Escondido, CA. They moved to the Midwest in 1962 and eventually settled in Schaumburg, IL in 1965 where they raised their family. Mary was the beloved mother of Susan Golen (James Anderson), Kathryn Lerner (Edward), Brian (Sue) Wimmer and Timothy (Diane) Wimmer. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Julie Hillman and her brothers, Mike Goodbody (Miriam), Joe Goodbody (Carol) and Steve Goodbody (Jennifer). She was Aunt Mary to many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Bill, brothers Dick and Bob, brother-in law Bill Hillman, and son-in law Bob Golen.
Mary was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She valued education so much that she returned to working full time as a registered nurse to ensure that her children received college educations. Her compassionate nursing skills were always present; she was an ultimate caregiver from scratched knees to serious illness. She enjoyed reading, doing crosswords, sewing, and gardening. She delighted in being with her grandchildren and was always interested in their interests and activities. From a mean grilled cheese to delicious French toast, she enjoyed making special meals for all of them.

Her family is most grateful for the loving care she received while residing at St. Camillus Assisted Living.

A memorial service will be held on August 4, 2021, at 1pm at the chapel at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mary Alice Wimmer Memorial Fund, established by the family to support the ongoing mission of delivering compassionate care by St. Camillus’ Hospice Agency.
