Howard M. Schwartz passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jerrie Schwartz of 61 years. He is survived by his two children Robert Schwartz and Andrea Hanley and their spouses Elizabeth Schwartz and Al Hanley. He was the proud Zaide of five grandchildren: Liam, Maura, Jessica, Aidan, Nathaniel, grand-cat Sid, and grand-dog Shea.
Howard was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Temple University and was an honored member and president of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. He also met Jerrie and raised their children there. He moved to Wisconsin in 1988 and lived in the Waukesha area with Jerrie ever since.
Howard worked as the Director of Development for Philadelphia College of Art, was a fundraiser for a Jewish home in Philadelphia, and owned various small businesses. Additionally, he volunteered for the Wisconsin Humane Society and the Red Cross.
Howard was passionate about pet first aid, which stems from his love of dogs, and authored the book First Aid for Pets. He also enjoyed boating, camping, computers, creating wood sculptures, taking trips to the Northwoods with family, and rides in the country with Jerrie. He loved family dinners and spending quality time with his children, grandchildren, and grand-pets.
Howard will be greatly missed by his loved ones. He is remembered for his sense of humor, loyalty, dedication to his family, creativity, and inventiveness. Rest in peace, Zaide.
A private memorial service for close friends and family will be held at a later date. Please feel free to donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society in Howard’s name, as he was deeply supportive of their work.
