Found peace in God’s loving arms after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, on Saturday, August 11, 2018, age 76.

Beloved husband and best friend to Kathleen (nee Kehoe) for 52 years. Loving and devoted father to Dawn (Kevin) Capwell and Gregory (Lori) Shinkle. He was extremely proud of his three grandchildren Michael, Ryan, and Katrina Capwell, along with his great-grandson, Liam. Family was very important to Garry and he was the dear uncle of Marlene Evers, Maureen Toczek, Allison Knight, Theodore Sedorook, Ronald, William, Robert and Richard Ostrowski. Special brother-in-law of Karen Kehoe, Patricia (the late James) Wood and Ronald Ostrowski. Preceded in death by his parents, Claude Shinkle and Lucille (nee Mulock) Calkins, sisters Betty Head and Claudine Ostrowski and brother-in-law George Head. Best buddy of Benji. Further loved by other relatives and many friends.

He served his country in the 32nd, Red Arrow Division of the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis.

Garry was proud of his accomplishments on the job. He worked for 27 years at GE Medical Systems. He also worked at Force Outboard, Mercury Marine and the Sussex Public Library. He was particularly focused on the opportunity to problem solve and find creative solutions to get tasks completed.

Garry is well known for his genial, outgoing demeanor and his wry sense of humor. He would often strike up conversations with total strangers and leave with a new friend. Garry loved to travel. This was especially true for road trips. He adored exploring new places and locations. Garry enjoyed golfing with his buddies at Scenic View Golf Course, bowling, NASCAR, Packers, Badgers and cards with friends. Every Sunday night during the summer you could find him at Slinger Speedway with his son Greg.

The family wants to give special thanks to the staff at Serenity Villa and Horizon Hospice for their exemplary and compassionate care of Garry in his final months.

Garry always went out of his way to do a good deed for others. Taking the opportunity to pay it forward would be a wonderful way to honor his memory.

You will always be loved and never forgotten. Until we meet again. God bless. “Always my love”
