Mr. Charlie Boyd Pace, of Milwaukee, WI, died on July 12, 2020, at the age of 83.
No one ever left Charlie Pace’s home hungry or short on stories about his fishing exploits or tales about Milwaukee during its jazz age. His tackle box is now a family heirloom as is a picture of him beside Al Jarreau, a childhood friend. His home-made barbecue grill might outlive all of us and was the focal point for countless gatherings of family and friends. They all ate well while admiring his perfect lawn and beautifully arranged flowers, shrubs, and trees. Eight-foot tomato plants and better-than-Georgia peaches were not uncommon. Everyone’s thumb is a little greener for having known him, and much of his gardening expertise is alive and well in family gardens.
Charlie was born on May 21, 1937, in Tunica, Mississippi. Parents Benny and Mary Jones moved Charlie and his brother Robert to Milwaukee, WI when he was five years old. As a child and young adult, he loved to fish, hunt, and work on cars. He joined the United States Air Force where he was a proud chauffeur driver and retired at an early age. He then worked for the United States Postal Services as a mail truck driver for over twenty years.
In 1965, Charlie married Barbara Brown, and the couple had two daughters and one son. As the primary caregiver, Charlie balanced his time between fishing, his kid’s school activities, and family dinners. His most proud possession was his yard. It was the most beautiful landscaping that anyone can imagine.
Charlie will be loved and missed by his surviving wife, Barbara Pace; son; Tomey Howard, daughters; Darleen Howard-Binder (Gerald), Mary Howard-Edwards (Wayne), His grandchildren; Chelsey Cooper (Javaris), Danielle Barnes and other families and friends.
At the family’s request, no services will be held. Flowers and condolences may be sent to his wife at 10901 West Donna Drive, Apt. 231, Milwaukee, WI 53224.
A special “thank you” to New Perspective Senior Care for all their care.
