Wells, Barbara K. (nee Kennon) crossed over to the other side on October 3, 2018 at the age of 78. Matthew Pilarski (son and caretaker) was able to be with her in her final moments. She will be remembered for her brilliant mind, sharp wit, outgoing personality and zest for life. She was an epicurean tour de force. Barb was always cooking, baking or trying new cuisines from around the world, much to the delight of friends, family and co-workers. Beloved sister of Sylvia (Mark) Remitz. Preceded in death by her brother Jerry. She loved to entertain with her culinary masterpieces and even taught cooking classes and gave cooking demonstrations. She will always be remembered as Queen of the Kitchen and Chef mom by daughter, Louisa Eastman.
An alum of UWM in Social Welfare she worked for Milwaukee County with Women’s and Children’s programs before changing careers and working for UWM for almost 25 years in Chapman Hall supporting Business and Financial Affairs. Always passionate about reading and education she was involved in starting after school programs, new schools for kids, kindergartens, and at-risk programs to further education for kids. She became known as the “Book Grandma” by her Grandchildren Charles (Andrea) Schilling, Kristi (Zak and baby) Grim, Sarah (Dan and great grandson Monty) Blonsky and Rebecca Schilling. Her love of reading extends to her final resting place where she will be interred in the Library at the Wisconsin Memorial Park.
Barbara is further survived by other relatives and friends. Should family or friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to Louisa or Matt as an expression of sympathy. A memorial service is being planned. Please contact Louisa or Matt for final details.
