On November 13, 2018, Robert John Braun passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

Born on July 28, 1928, Bob grew up on a farm in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. After graduating from Washington High School in 1946, Bob enlisted in the Army, serving as a trombonist in the 774th Air Force Band. Following an honorable discharge, Bob enrolled at Stout State College and ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education in 1952 and a master’s degree in Vocational Education in 1961. Bob worked at Milwaukee Area Technical College, first teaching Machine Shop and later mentoring students as a guidance counselor, retiring in 1989 as the Placement Director.

Bob will be fondly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Nancy (née Neis); his brothers, Gordon and William; his children, Heidi (Tom) Braun-Volkmann, David (Gina), and Tom (Lisa); his grandchildren, Charles, Erin Kendall, Matthew (Jennifer), Marne, Cale (Julia), and Hannah (Ryan) Hunt; and his four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Lucille (née Reif) Braun.

Bob cultivated a lifelong love of gardening and was renown for growing beautiful flower and abundant vegetable gardens, which flourished with his patience and hard work. Those around Bob benefited from his love of music, from childhood band concerts to playing in the 1st Brigade Band in historic military costume, although his penchant for old reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show eluded the rest of the family. Bob’s faith in God was important to him, and he was an active member of Brookside Baptist Church and several bible studies. While his family will reminisce about fishing trips, countless woodworking projects, and summers spent camping without plumbing, ultimately Bob will be remembered for a life guided by his faith, embodying I Corinthians 13 with love that was patient and kind, without envy or pride, that always trusted, hoped and persevered.

Notorious for his gentle sense of humor and tendency to laugh through his own jokes, if Bob were still with us, he would invariably make a wisecrack about this going on too long – and likely suggest that we go for frozen custard. His family and friends will miss him dearly.
