Maria Haros, 93, of West Allis, WI passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024. She is the daughter of Eirini Stergiou (Née Demopoulos) and Giannis Stergiou.

Maria was the sister of the late Konstantinos Stergiou, Ourania Stergiou, and Anna (Niko) Gentekis.

Maria was born in 1930 in Athens, Greece. She was a young girl when she survived the hardships of WWII. She married her husband Giannis “John” when she was 23 years old. Together they took on many endeavors such as raising a family, owning an olive oil business and opening a grocery store. They ventured to the United States by ship in search of a better life.

Maria worked at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She retired after 25 years of dedicated service.

Maria was known for her perseverance, courage and free-spirit. She had a great passion for cooking that she enjoyed sharing with her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved singing and creative writing. Her favorite way to spend her time was with her children and grandchildren. She shared a special bond with her grandson Niko Vincent. They loved spending lots of time together.

Maria was the loving mother of Andreas “Andy” Haros, Konstantinos “Gus” Haros, and Nina Vincent (Timothy). Grandmother to Jassa Haros, Yanni Haros (Hannah), Niko Vincent, Demetra Morris (Gabriel), Brittany Bailey, Katerina Haros, and Athena Rosenthal (Gabriel). She recently became a great grandmother to Apollonia Eirini Rosenthal, and Andreas Yanni Haros.

She is preceded in death by her husband Giannis “John” Haros.

A gathering of family and friends of Maria will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 11:30am – 12:30pm. Service to follow at 12:30pm at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 West National Avenue, New Berlin, Wisconsin. Burial to take place at 2:00 PM at Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin, Wisconsin.
