Helen E. Guist, 92, passed away Friday, January 13, at Clifton Court Assisted Living Facility in Greendale, Wisconsin. Helen was born on August 24, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois to Emil Beyer and Helen (Miller) Beyer. She grew up in Chicago. On Veteran’s Day in November, 1941, she met Gail A. Guist who was in the navy stationed at Great Lakes. They spent the afternoon together and never saw each other until after World War II. They corresponded all during the war. They married on January 15, 1946.

Helen and Gail moved to a farm near Viroqua, Wisconsin, where she found she had a green thumb. She loved gardening and always had a beautiful flower garden and a large vegetable garden. She filled the pantry with several different kinds of jams, pickles and vegetables.

In 1950, Helen and Gail left the farm and moved to Waupun, Wisconsin, where Gail worked in the power house at the prison. Helen was active in St. Joseph’s parish and volunteered her time working in the parish school cafeteria. Helen and Gail lived in Waupun until 1964 when they moved to Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. After Gail died, Helen moved to West Allis, Wisconsin, in 1989.

Helen loved fishing, camping, playing cards and watching the Packers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a big heart and never hesitated to help out her family and friends. She was full of fun and energy and lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by her daughters Helen (Gregory) Hawke of Hales Corners, Wisconsin and Patricia (Kevin) Salmon of Foster, Wisconsin, three grandchildren, James (Deby) Hawke, John (Dawn) Hawke, Aaron (Laura) Salmon, four great-grandchildren, Ericka Hawke, Tyler Hawke, Aleister Salmon and Hugo Salmon, two brothers, Fred Beyer of Huntington Beach, California, Larry Beyer of Lombard, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gail, one son, John, her parents and sisters Rosemary, Rita and Loretta. Helen will be missed by her family and friends.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the loving and compassionate care that was provided to our mother at Clifton Court Assisted Living Facility in Greendale, Wisconsin.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls, on Monday, June 26, 2017, 10:00 AM.
