Burgardt, Frederick J (Fred)
Fred found Eternal Peace on January 29, 2021. Proceeded in death by his parents Allen and Hilda (Thoms), his wife of 29 years Arlene (Ketelsen), brothers Allan and wife Doris Mae, Donald and wife June, and Phyllis Burgard. Survived by brother Robert (Joanne), former wife Virgina Burgardt (Rehfeldt), children William (Kimberly), Kenneth (Melody), Debra (James) Smith, Jennifer (Danny Sorenson), Heidi Lemerond (Mason), Timothy Siebert (Gayle), 16 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Fred took great pride serving in the United States Airforce from February 1950 until March 1959. He enjoyed 62 years with the American Legion and was Post Commander for approximately nine years at American Legion General Charles King Post 406. Fred was known as the “Encyclopedia of the Legion.” Before falling ill, Fred was a member of the Brookfield Masonic Lodge No.370.
Fred was named an Honorary Assistant Coach of the 1988 / 1989 Brookfield East High School Ladies State Champion Soccer team; designated School Bus Driver of the month of March 1988 by the Wisconsin Hills Parent Alliance Bus Committee; was recognized by The Milwaukee County Council, Scouts BSA(fka the Boy Scouts of America) for dedication and achievement in making the Sustaining Membership Enrolment Campaign of 1977 a success; and was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Scouts BSA(fka the Boy Scouts of America), for his dedication and service to Cub Scout Pack #165; he was a committee member for BSA troop 465.
Interment with Military Honors will be held at Pinelawn Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 2:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to family, in care of Robert Burgardt, 414 Hartford Square, Hartford WI 53027.
Fred’s children extend their sincere appreciation to their cousin Barbara Burgardt for watching over and attending to Fred’s medical needs and care in the years after Arlene’s passing.
