With heavy hearts and great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Florence Mildred May (nee Meunier), on Friday, July 29, 2022, age 98. Florence was born in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, February 11, 1924, to Ella and Edward Meunier. She married Melvin May of Sawyer, Wisconsin on May 16, 1942, at the young age of 18. Together they had 8 children and spent over 37 wonderful years together. While her husband provided for the family as a building contractor, she took great pride in being a homemaker and lovingly raised her 8 children. She was the rock, the glue, the matriarch of the large family. Shortly before her passing she expressed the best part of her life was all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. She was beautiful, generous, and strong-willed, with a kind and caring heart and infectious smile. She always had a cheerful outlook, and many funny sayings like, “If you’re mad then get glad”, “It’s raining pitchforks and hoe-handles”, or “She’s as restless as a willow tree in a windstorm.”
She was simply amazing and will be remembered as the ‘Best Mom Ever” who will be missed beyond words. As mom would say, “ Bye for now.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Melvin May, son William May, brother Elmer Meunier (the late Donna) brother Martin Meunier (the late Mildred), sister Mae Adrian (the late Howard), sister June (the late Doug), and sister Wilma (the late Les).
She is survived by her children Sandra Webb (the late Chuck), David May (the late Patricia), Colleen Schlee (the late Steve), Robert May, Patricia Hitz (Dave), Barbara Burdge (the late Scott) and Christine Brando (Nick).
Grandchildren: Lisa Webb, Shelley Hadler (Michael), Michael Schlee (Karen), Terrence Schlee (Terry), Robin Raddatz (Todd), Stephanie Gronewold (Ward), Tracy Schmidt (Kyle), Steven Hitz, Nathan Burdge (Samantha), Brittany Burdge, Jacob Brando, and Tyler Brando
Great- grandchildren: Anthony Hadler, Kirsten Hadler, Amanda Prust (Steve), Nicole Cyra, Megan Raddatz, the late John Schlee, Cailey Mitchel, Ashley Mitchel, Logan Gronewold, Allicia Gronewold, Ava Schmidt, Lilly Schmidt, Emmie Schmidt, and Brielle Shelton
Great-great- grandchildren: Greyson Prust, Rowan Prust, and Josephine ( Josie) Gibbs
Further survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many special friends.
The immediate family will hold a Private Graveside Service at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
