Carlene M. Bogenberger
August 2, 1934 – December 30, 2025
Carlene was called to Eternal rest on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at age 91. Carlene was born on August 2, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only daughter of Walter “Wally” Emil Glatzel and Amelia “Pat” Haas (née Sevcek) Glatzel, and younger sister of Walter “Wally” Leonard Glatzel.
Carlene graduated from Messmer High School in 1953 and was married to Richard Cobus when she was widowed in 1970. They had 5 children together: Gary (Janet) Cobus, Jeff (Mary Bogenberger) Cobus, Karen (Todd) Hansen, Dan (Christine Howard) Cobus, and Cheryl (Brian) Roloff.
In 1974, Carlene married Jerry Bogenberger, a widower with 8 children from his first marriage to Eileen (née Flock): Thomas, Constance (William) Schuenke, James (Kathy), Robert (Mary Ann), Mary (Jeff) Cobus, Joan Quinlan, John (JoAnn), and Joseph (Suzanne).
Although some had joked that Carlene and Jerry were crazy for marrying someone else with that many children, they somehow made this “Brady Bunch” style family, not only work, but thrive. In fact, the two families melded as one so seamlessly that they do not think of each other as anything other than one big family.
Together they loved to travel, particularly via train, so they could see the sights on the way to their destination, and they loved a good cruise. Though they called Wisconsin home their entire lives, they lived in Ocala, FL for a time, and wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for several years. They had a rich social life and enjoyed many pastimes together such as golfing, bowling, playing cards, going to Marquette University basketball games, watching the Green Bay Packers play, fishing, going for rides on their pontoon boat, listening to Neil Diamond music (Carlene’s favorite singer!), among other activities, and they treasured spending time with family and friends.
Carlene was the proud grandmother of Jenny Bogenberger (Travis) Schultz, Stacy Schuenke (Richard) Godfrey, Scott (Kristina) Schuenke, Kelly Schuenke (Mark) Pamperin, Michelle Bogenberger (T.J.) Chester, Brad Bogenberger, Bryan (Elizabeth) Bogenberger, Brienne Bogenberger (Steve) Boerner, Lauren Bogenberger (Eric) Tingwall, Kevin Cobus, Joe (Alexis) Cobus, Mike Cobus, Amanda Quinlan (Carlos) Valero, Jessica Quinlan (Ty) Johnson, Eric (Brianna) Hansen, Craig (Megan Voss) Hansen, Nikki Hansen (Brandon) Antony, Erin Bogenberger (Derek) Dulka, Kyle Bogenberger, Anna Cobus (Evan) St. Martin, Chris Cobus, Greg Cobus, Jackie Stephenson (Matt) Drusch, and Jackie Bogenberger. She was also a loving great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, brother Wally, daughter Joan, and other family and friends.
The majority of her adult life was spent working in retail positions, most notably at Kohl’s food store in Waukesha, Wisconsin for 22 years. In her later years, Carlene spent time volunteering at Queen of Apostles Church, crocheting with the “Prayer-Shawl Committee” and sending birthday cards to other senior citizen parish members.
Visitation will be held at Queen of Apostles Church, N35 W23360 Capitol Drive, Pewaukee, Wisconsin on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, immediately followed by Catholic Mass at noon. She will then be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Queen of Apostles Church, Pewaukee, WI.
