(Nee Hinton) Died on Oct. 5, 2019, at the age of 86. Known as Carolyn, she is survived by five children, Albert (Kathy), Michael (Laura), Ann (the late Steve) Reiser, Chris (Anne) and Mark; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, her brother, Thomas Hinton, and her two sisters, Annetta and Mary Jo.

Born Sept. 4, 1933, to Francis and Antoinette Hinton, Carolyn attended Mount Mary College and graduated from College of Notre Dame (now Notre Dame de Namur University) in Belmont, Calif. She taught in the San Francisco area before marrying Albert and devoting many years to raising five children.

In 1966, she and Albert moved their family to Wisconsin, first to Whitefish Bay and then to Long Lake in Fond du Lac County, and then to Cedarburg, Wis. She was a substitute teacher and a full-time knitter, making sweaters and hats for her children, nieces, nephews and the children of her many friends. Those sweaters and hats are still in use by her great grandchildren and many others. In December 1988, Carolyn and Albert began their next grand adventure by moving to Guatemala. There Carolyn’s curiosity and commitment to serving others led her to befriending Mayan archaeologists, coordinating programs for malnourished children at the Hermano Pedro Hospital in Antigua Guatemala, and developing and operating the Finca los Nietos coffee farm in San Lorenzo el Cubo, Guatemala. She enjoyed traveling to Europe with family and friends, and was known throughout Antigua Guatemala for her vast library of books on Mayan and Guatemalan history and her willingness to open her home to a never-ending stream of visitors.

Carolyn moved back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the summer of 2018, two years after the death of Albert. She was cared for by loving staff of Providence Court on St. Anne’s Salvatorian Campus in Milwaukee.
