Susan Nowak born November 12, 1941, passed from this life on August 15, 2023. Proceeded by her
husband George E. Nowak, mother Sylvia Oliss, and father Thaddeus Oliss. She left behind her favorite
sister Dorothy (Gerald) Turow, children: Amy (Thomas) Hilger, Dory Karinen, Julie (Steve)Nickolaus and
Michael Nowak, Grandchildren: Daniel (Kristina) Karinen, Samantha Nowak, Andrew (Clara) Karinen,
Randall Nickolaus, Matthew Nowak, Sarah Nickolaus, George Nowak and Great granddaughter Sawyer
Ann Karinen.
Susan owned several businesses, including; Arrow Engravers, The Collector (Antiques), Screen Craft (T-
shirts) and Mike’s Drive In (frozen Custard). She also spent time as a Realtor/Broker for Federated Realty
and Brookstone Homes. She finally decided to slow down and worked at Walgreens in the card
department before retiring in 2017.
She loved playing dominoes, cards and Mahjong! In fact, after her cancer diagnosis, she explained to
the doctors that she couldn’t do chemotherapy because it would interfere with her “game” days. Her
time spent with friends and family was always a priority. She made friends easily and stayed connected
with people from childhood through all seasons of her life.
In addition to her work and raising four “amazing” children, she enjoyed painting, decorating, reading,
and flower arranging. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and we will forever be
grateful for the true gift and inspiration she was as a friend and mother. Thank you, all who knew and
loved her, for smiling, crying, laughing, playing and walking beside her on her journey through life.
A private family gathering was held in her honor.
