Lueverne Houston (nee Mosley) went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 18^th, 2022 at the age of 99.  Lueverne was born November 5th, 1923, to the late Christopher Columbus Mosley and Katie (nee Hudnall) Mosley in Kemper County, MS.  She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Houston and her son Barney L. Houston.

Beloved mother of Jackie (Lieutenant) Baylor (nee Houston), dear grandmother of Robbyne J. Baylor, Douglas (Janice) H. Baylor, Janna L. Baylor and Jonathan Nolan.  Great-grandmother of London Powell (Alexis), Jailyn Powell and Kendell Powell.  Great-great grandmother of Lucas Powell and Logan Powell.

She was a dedicated and faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Meridian, MS. She loved to sing and was very active in choir and was often the soloist in service.  She was involved with her church participating in activities such as circle meeting and Sunday School.  She was also very active in the community visiting the sick and shut in.

Lueverne was known to the children in the neighborhood as the “Candy Lady” because she would always pass out candy to children at church.  She worked as a window dresser at Mangels department store and as an elevator operator at Marks-Rothenberg department store in Meridian, MS.
