Joy Martin Taylor Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday January 30, 2026, at the age of 86. An honest man of immense integrity, Joy was a pillar of strength for his family and a friend to anyone in need. He was the rare kind of soul who would truly give the shirt off his back to help a stranger.
A proud veteran, Joy served his country in the United States Army. His commitment to service continued later in life as a dedicated volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he combined his love for the water with his desire to keep others safe.
By trade, Joy was a master mechanic with Barry Trucking Co. (Roundy’s). He possessed a brilliant technical mind and spent a lifetime of Saturdays in his garage, designing, building, and fixing. Whether he was troubleshooting an engine or navigating the open waters of Lake Michigan, he did so with precision and a steady hand.
Joy was proceeded in death by his loving parents, Joy Taylor, Sr. and Margaret Taylor. Joy was beloved husband of Karen Sue Taylor for 62 wonderful years. Karen preceded Joy to heaven on February 13, 2024. He loved her deeply and never stopped missing her; we find great comfort in knowing that after two years apart, they are finally reunited.
Joy is dear Father of Joy “Marty” Taylor III, Jean Martin (Michael), Irene “Beth” Taylor (Kristine). Joy was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He was proud to be Brother of Clara Essig (Bill), Myron Taylor (Lui), Marlene Blaha (the late Steve), Melva Burnette (Dennis), and the late Clarion Taylor (Bonnie). Joy deeply missed his brother, Clarion, since his passing last year, and our family is heartened to think of their joyful reunion in heaven alongside their beloved parents. Joy always held a special place in his heart for his cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. His love remains.
