Claire Krolick (Vawter) was born to eternal life on March 19, 2025 at the age of 100. She was beloved wife and best friend of Ben who preceded her in death. Loving mother to Michael (the late Barbara) and Steve (Doris). Caring grandmother to Chris (Alejandra), William (Kimberly) and Susan (Jason) Pederson. Beloved great-grandmother to Caitlyn, Iliana, and Cruz. Aunt to her loving and thoughtful nieces and nephews: Kathy, David, Lisa, RoseMarie, Peggy, Carole, Cathy, Nancy, Mickey, and Peggie. Also survived by other relatives and friends.
Claire was born in Augusta, Georgia to William D. and Ruth (Keel) Vawter on September 15, 1924. She and Ben were married in 1947 and lived in New Berlin where they raised their family. After working for NSPS as secretary to the Principal at Orchard Lane School for 15 years, she retired. After retirement, she and Ben were able to travel and spent much time enjoying their grandchildren. They spent many winters living in Hawaii.
Claire was a proud veteran of the Navy, serving during WWII as a Navy Wave. She was one of ten Waves chosen by the Navy as their first women to attend IBM School in Endicott, New York. After completing this school, she was sent to Cleveland Bureau of Supplies and Accounts to work in the “Mustering Out Pay Division” where she met the love of her life, Ben. She was a Life Member of the WAVES NATIONAL and served as treasurer for Badger Unit #39 for 13 years. Also, a Charter Member of WIMSA.
Later in life, Claire loved to read and do crossword puzzles. However, the computer was her life line to the world. Facebook was her link to view many pictures, especially of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
