Evelyn Rose Hutchins (Shaw) found her peace on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, age 89.
Wife of Huey P. Hutchins. Loving mother of two sons who preceded her James Jr. and Milton (Susan) Mitchell. Great-great- grandmother of Noah and Nolan. Further loved by other relatives, extended family and friends too numerous to name.
Visitation at Krause Funeral Home, 7001 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee on Friday, November 19, 2021, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Funeral Service 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park 1:30 PM.
The matriarch of the family, Evelyn was happiest when she was surrounded by people. She loved to talk and joke with everyone she came in contact with, sometimes striking up a conversation with people at the grocery store, as she did her daily shopping, or while she was stopping at the dollar store for goodies. Evelyn worked for over 50 years at Concordia University, from the early days when it was an all men’s college in Milwaukee, to the new campus in Mequon. There are countless students and faculty whose lives Evelyn touched with a kind word of encouragement, small gesture of kindness or uplifting their spirits with a funny comment. Evelyn would often stay after her shift was over so she could talk to students and coworkers. She became such a cure for anxiety and a source for advice and care that the university decided to name its SMART (Stress Management And Resiliency Training) Lab in her honor, calling it “Evelyn’s Place.” Evelyn showed that same care and love for her family and adopted many along the way, making everyone in her circle feel safe and loved. Whether she was sitting on the front porch with her best friend Johnnie Mae watching the neighborhood happenings or checking on her great-great- grandsons, when Evelyn loved you, you knew it. Rest easy, and we’ll all drink a Bloody Mary in your honor.

Working at CUW and interacting with Evelyn was one of the highlights of my 11 years there. I will never forget her. Jim Hutchinson
