Elaine Betty Lipton

Elaine Betty Lipton, (nee Koons) Born to Eternal Life in the early morning of November 4, 2017, at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Merrill Lipton. Loving mother of Linda (Jim) Fithian, Lance (MaryAnne) Lipton, Beverly (Jim) Anderton , Joyce (Tom) Rubietta, Cheryl (John) Lipton-Van De Steeg, and Dennis (Melissa) Lipton.  Proud grandmother of 14 and great-grandmother of 8.  Dear sister of Bud and the late Oliver, Maynard and  Irene.

She was born near Paoli, PA on November 12, 1930 to the now deceased Sarah Mabel (Mertz) and Hiram Koons.  Elaine graduated with a Nursing degree from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia, PA,  on August 22, 1951 and became an RN on December 26, 1951 after completing her nursing board exams.  Elaine met her  husband, Dr. Merrill Lipton, during her nursing training.  They were married for 61 years at the time of his death in May 2015.  A testament to their shared love for the medical profession and helping others, all of their children pursed medical careers.  Elaine was a well respected and loved nurse and enjoyed her profession.  After the birth of her first child in 1954, she retired from hospital nursing and became a full time mother of 6.   Elaine was always ready to try something new and have adventures.  She had a wonderful joyful laugh and was selfless in her devotion to her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother and she is surely missed.  Her many hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading, swimming, and tending her many animals- dogs, cats, sheep, goats, horses and 1 steer.

Few are gifted with her many qualities- loving, giving, steadfast, honesty, faith endurance, and fortitude.  Her children, relatives and friends are fortunate to have seen and benefited from her presence.  Elaine and Merrill lived in Newtown Square, Pa, until May 1980 when they moved to Belton, Texas.  They lived in Belton until Merrill’s death in May 2015.

Elaine suffered from Multi-Vascular Dementia and spent the last 2 ½ years at Silverado Memory Care in Brookfield, WI. The family wishes to thank the staff of Silverado and the hospice company, Ascera Care for their caring treatment of Elaine.

According to Elaine’s wishes, she will be cremated and the family has planned a private memorial service.
