A third generation railroader, Dan retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad after 42 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII. He enjoyed mountaineering, cycling, speed skating, and triathlons. When Dan was 13 his father took him to Del’s Sport and Cycle Shop to buy his first pair of speed skates. The opening of the Pettit National Speed Skating Center provided him with volunteer opportunities and a place to skate without freezing. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held March 18, 2017, for family and friends.
