Dainis was larger than life when I was a kid. I remember thinking he was a giant. I describe him now as a lovable curmudgeon until you got to know him - and then he was just lovable (he was actually a big teddy bear). He was always willing to help. And he loved to give people a hard time in jest. My mom and he would go back and forth and I would just giggle the whole time. Martha and Dainis have been very dear friends of my mom's for years, and Martha means the world to my sister and I. To the entire family: I am so sorry for your loss. I know it won't take the pain of the loss any easier, but I hope I can offer a little comfort in knowing that I feel so lucky to have known someone like Dainis and I have only fond memories of him. The world lost one of the good ones when Dainis passed on to whatever great journey awaits us after this one.
